The styles of US based label Alternative are produced in locations and factories all over the world, including the United States, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Thailand, Egypt, Vietnam, and China. All of the Alternative Earth collection originates from Peru, the Dominican Republic, or Thailand. Alternative works mainly with local manufacturers in their product’s country of origin, so the original producers receive the rewards of their work directly.
Low-impact dyes for everything in the Alternative Earth line are being used. This means that they do not contain any heavy metals or toxic substances, nor are they petro-chemically based. The absorption (or fixation) rate for these dyes averages 75%, which means they are able to use less dye to produce the colors and less water to rinse them in the process. Low-impact dyes are used in many of the products outside of the Alternative Earth line as well.
Eco-Heather and Eco-Vertigrain are two eco-friendly fabrics are created by blending traditional fibers with organic cotton, EcoSpun polyester (which is made from recycled soda bottles) and rayon made from converted plant cellulose. Anything in the Alternative line stating it is 100% Organic is certified organic.
